The nine members assist and advise the City Council and staff on essential policies, rules and regulations relating to advocacy issues experienced by the disabled of the community, such as accessibility, education and employment.

The Mayor's Committee for People with Disabilities was established in January of 1990 to serve as a liaison between citizens of Chandler who have disabilities, and/or those who serve individuals with disabilities and the City Council for the City of Chandler. We assist the City Council on policies, rules and regulations relating to issues experienced by the disabled of the community, such as accessibility, education and employment. We serve as advocates for those in the community with physical and mental disabilities, birth defects, injuries sustained due to accidents, illnesses and age-related disabilities.
Requirements: Nine members (three-year term); eight members must be qualified electors; residents for one year preceding appointment. One member may be a resident of the local metro area for one year preceding appointment.
The term of each member shall be for three years, and each member shall serve until his/her successor is appointed and qualified. Any vacancy in office during the term shall be filled by the Mayor with approval of the Council for the unexpired term.
