Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)

monopole

The City of Chandler is in the final stages of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) project, an integrated system of smart water meters, a communication network and data management that provides water consumption data. With AMI, customers will be able to view and manage their daily water use, receive leak detection alerts, and pay their monthly bill through an online portal, combining utility account bill payment with water conservation efforts.

AMI is expected to go live in 2026.

To prepare for this new technology, the City of Chandler is replacing aging water meters with meters that are compatible with AMI over the past year. Meters for new customers are also AMI compatible.

The new meters are updated versions of the same Neptune meters that have been used in the City of Chandler since 2004.

The communication network requires gateway collectors that will gather data from surrounding water meters. The collectors are pieces of equipment that are installed on existing poles. In order to have proper system wide coverage, some collectors will need to be installed on a monopole (a single pole, similar to a street light without a light attached - see image above). The monopoles are 40’ high and will be installed within city reservoir and well sites.

For more information about this project, please call 480-782-3581.

The city is replacing all aging water meters with meters compatible with AMI technology. Replacing aging meters ensures customers are being billed accurately.

Once AMI goes live, customers will be able to view and manage their water usage through an online portal using their smart phone, tablet or laptop.

For any questions regarding charges on your monthly bill, please contact Utility Services at 480-782-2280.

Due to the number of meters that will be replaced, contractor assistance is required for meter replacement support. Metering Services Inc. (MSI), will be assisting in this effort. As a courtesy, door hangers will be placed 3-5 business days prior to the meter being replaced. A technician will knock on your door once on-site, prior to replacing the meter.
