Project: WA2403.401
Water valves control the flow in pipes and plumbing fixtures, allowing water to be shut off or adjusted.
Chandler’s Public Works & Utilities department manages an ongoing Water Valve Replacement Program to evaluate aging water infrastructure and prioritize and identify valves that need to be exchanged for a new one.
The replacement of broken or aging valves in the city’s water distribution system reduces the time that it takes to shut down a water main during water emergencies. This minimizes water waste and damage to city infrastructure and personal property.
The Water Valve Replacement Program will allow for the replacement of approximately 30 valves in the potable water distribution system. Affected residents and businesses will receive prior notification of any planner water outages resulting from this work.
The City of Chandler’s Public Works & Utilities Department is conducting a water valve replacement project to ensure continued reliable service. Some underground water valves have reached the end of their service life and no longer function properly. These valves need to be tested and replaced.
What to Expect
Test Shutdowns
- The Water Department will perform short test shutdowns to verify if valve replacements can proceed as planned.
- Notice: Affected homes within the shutdown area will receive a door notification 48 hours in advance.
- Most test shutdowns will be quick and likely will not cause noticeable water disruption.
Valve Replacements
- After successful test shutdowns, the Water Department will coordinate with contractors to replace faulty valves.
- Notice: Homes impacted by valve replacement will receive a door notification 48 hours in advance with an estimated duration of the water shutdown.
- Water service may be temporarily disrupted during the replacement, but typically only for a few hours.
- Work at each location is expected to last approximately 2 days, The disruption to the water service will only last a few hours.
We appreciate your patience as we work to improve the reliability of Chandler’s water system.
