Volunteers still needed; residents invited to share acts of kindness, and nominate military and first responder honorees

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The City of Chandler is bringing hundreds of volunteers together for its annual For Our City Day on Saturday, March 21.

This year‘s selected neighborhood is Tradition East, located near Chandler Boulevard and McQueen Road. Volunteers will support residents with a variety of exterior improvement projects from 7–11 a.m., followed by a commUNITY walk to a celebration and free lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Pima Park, 625 N. McQueen Road.

Organized by the city’s Neighborhood Programs Office, For Our City Day brings together volunteers from nonprofit organizations and businesses each year to support one Chandler non-HOA neighborhood. Volunteers can view a list of projects and sign up at For Our City Day. Nonprofits and businesses interested in hosting a booth during the post-event celebration can contact Neighborhood Programs staff.

This is the third year that For Our City Day has partnered with the Chavez Foundation to remember Cesar Chavez's spirit of service. In honor of his 99th birthday, the city is asking residents to share their acts of kindness as part of its 99 Acts of Kindness, One Community campaign. Acts of kindness can be anything you do for another person, big or small. Those who submit an act will be entered into a raffle. Submissions are open at For Our City Day under "99 Acts of Kindness."

The city also wants to recognize those who currently serve, or have served, in all branches of the military, as well as current and former first responders. Residents are invited to submit a loved one or friend for the Parade of Heroes Recognition at For Our City Day. Honorees will have their photos on display during the Celebration in the Park as a thank you for their service.

This year's For Our City Day is made possible with support from Chandler Unified School District, Home Depot, Sherwin-Williams, VIAVI, WM of Arizona, Resurrection Street Ministry, Salvation Army, Red Canyon Supply, and PCL Construction. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. For more information, contact Priscilla Quintana with Neighborhood Programs at 480-782-4363.
