Emergency Preparedness

The City of Chandler provides this information to help you and your family better prepare for any emergency situation, natural disaster or public health crisis that might arise in the community. Some of the potential hazards we can face are strong winds, flooding, heat waves, power outages and fires, along with the possibility of man-made threats. There are numerous online resources designed to  give residents the tools, information and coping skills they need to care for themselves and their families for up to 72 hours following a natural or man-made disaster.

In the event of an emergency situation, the City of Chandler will make every attempt to adequately inform citizens of the situation. If there is an emergency event, Chandler's social media accounts, this web site and the Chandler Channel will be updated with specific information in the event of a real emergency, disaster situation or public health crisis.

Community Emergency Notification System (CENS)

During an emergency in the Maricopa County region, CENS is designed to rapidly notify the affected area of the emergency by sending a recorded message through the telephone system. CENS uses the 9-1-1 database to extract phone numbers determined by the circle or area drawn on the CENS map. CENS launches a prerecorded message to the telephone numbers in the area defined. Cell and VoIP phones are not part of the 911 database; however, the public can now register Cell or VoIP phones with the CENS system. (CENS notifications are based on the address you provide for your Cell and or VoIP phone.).

Maricopa County Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan

The City of Chandler has joined forces with Maricopa County and other Valley jurisdictions to create a single multi-jurisdictional, multi-hazard mitigation plan. The goal is to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to life and property from natural hazard events. The process involves identifying and profiling the natural hazards most likely to occur in a community, assessing the vulnerability to these hazards, and establishing goals, actions, and projects that mitigate the associated risks. For more information, contact Maricopa County Department of Emergency Management at 602-273-1411.
