Building our community together
Project Number is PR2401.201
The City of Chandler is excited to share the progress on Mesquite Groves Park, the next major community recreational space. Located near the northwest corner of Val Vista Drive and Riggs Road, adjacent to the existing Mesquite Groves Aquatic Center, this park is being designed to meet the growing needs of our residents.
The journey toward this community resource began in 2000, when the City purchased 100 acres for park development. While the Mesquite Groves Aquatic Center was completed in 2008 on 10 acres of the site, the full vision for the park remained a high priority. In 2021, the Parks Strategic Master Plan officially designated Mesquite Groves as a top-tier project based on strong resident demand and population growth.
Your feedback has been the cornerstone of this project. Throughout 2024 and early 2025, the City worked with J2 Engineering & Environmental Design to update the master plan. We gathered vital input through:
- October 2024: A public meeting and online resident survey to identify desired park components.
- February 2025: A final conceptual meeting where the community’s vision was translated into the Conceptual Master Plan.
The park will be developed in phases over the next decade as part of the 2026-2035 Capital Improvement Plan.
December 2026 | Phase 1: Develop approximately 50 acres of the site.
- Final Design and Constructability Review: January 2026 to February 2027
- Construction: December 2026 to Summer 2028
- Phase 1 Grand Opening: Planned for Late Summer/Early Fall 2028
Ongoing Phase
- Design documents are currently being developed following the approval of the Conceptual Master Plan.
Future Development | Phase 2
- Phase 2 of the park’s construction will be scheduled in the future and will be dependent on the community support of a subsequent Bond Election.
As of March 2025, the City Council has approved the professional services agreement with J2 Design to finalize the overall park design. In April 2025, Hunter Contracting was selected to manage the construction and assist with design reviews to ensure efficiency.
The project reached a major milestone in November 2025, when Chandler voters passed the 2025 Bond Election. This approval secured and additional $30 million toward the construction. Park System Development Fees of over $30 million have been prioritized for this project and will together complete the first phase (approx. 50 acres) of the site.
