Nominations now open for Chandler’s annual Volunteer Recognition Awards program

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The City of Chandler is currently accepting online applications for its annual Volunteer Recognition Awards program. This program is the city’s opportunity to recognize and honor individuals for their selfless contributions that benefit Chandler’s community and local organizations. Nomination forms are only online at Chandler Volunteer Awards and must be submitted by 5 p.m. Monday, March 11.

Faith-based groups, nonprofits, schools, businesses or any organization with volunteers are encouraged to nominate individuals for one of eight recognition awards during the 2023 calendar year. The eight award categories with descriptions are:

  • Innovation Award – This award celebrates and honors the outstanding creativity and groundbreaking solutions brought to volunteerism. This award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated exceptional innovation in their volunteer efforts, showcasing an ability to think beyond conventional boundaries and contributing transformative ideas that make a lasting impact. Whether through new programming, technological advancements, or inventive approaches to addressing community needs, recipients of this award embody the spirit of innovation in volunteer service.
     
  • Longevity Award – This award is reserved for individuals who exemplify dedication to volunteer service to one organization. This award is a tribute to the exceptional commitment and enduring passion demonstrated by those who have contributed their time and effort to one organization for an extended period. Their enduring commitment has not only left an indelible mark on the organization but has also served as an inspiration to fellow volunteers, encouraging a culture of sustained impact.
     
  • Makes It Happen Award – This award celebrates the exceptional efforts of a nominee who epitomizes the spirit of proactive volunteerism. The nominee's commitment knows no bounds, as they tirelessly contribute their time and skills showcasing a versatile and unwavering dedication to community service. Their ability to "make it happen" in various contexts, coupled with a genuine desire to be of service, sets them apart.
     
  • Master Multitasker Award – This award honors the capabilities of a nominee who excels in handling a wide variety of multiple assignments or objectives at the same time. This award celebrates the nominee's exceptional ability to skillfully juggle various responsibilities while achieving success. Their capacity to manage multiple tasks with precision, efficiency, and a commitment to excellence sets them apart as a true master multitasker. Their approach coupled with the ability to navigate complex issues while still delivering outstanding results exemplifies a remarkable talent that significantly contributes to the success of the organization.
     
  • Strong Arms Award – This award celebrates the nominee's courage and versatility in volunteerism. This award pays homage to an individual who fearlessly tackles any volunteer assignment, regardless of its challenging or hands-on nature. Often referred to as the "jack/jill-of-all-trades" within the organization, the nominee embodies an adventurous spirit and an unwavering commitment to getting the job done, even when it involves tasks that may be considered "down-n-dirty." Their readiness to roll up their sleeves and take on any challenge showcases an enthusiasm for contributing to the community.
     
  • Sunbeam Award – This award celebrates the nominee whose infectious positivity and vibrant personality consistently light up the environment. This award is dedicated to the individual who embodies cheerfulness, radiating positivity that impacts everyone around them. The nominee is a beacon of joy who possesses an outstanding attitude and uplifts the organization with their warm and welcoming demeanor.
     
  • Working Together Award – This award recognizes the outstanding achievements of a group/business or organization that completed a volunteer project in Chandler. This award celebrates collective effort, teamwork, and community engagement, showcasing the group's commitment to making a positive impact in the local community. Whether through a hands-on project, a community service initiative, or a collaborative endeavor, this award acknowledges the dedication and contribution of the group in enhancing the well-being of Chandler residents.
     
  • Youth Volunteer of the Year Award – A special recognition reserved for outstanding individuals aged 17 and younger who exemplify exceptional dedication, positivity, hard work, or stand out in remarkable ways. This award acknowledges the unique contributions and exemplary qualities of young individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence, a positive attitude, and a strong work ethic. These young nominees have set themselves apart from their peers, leaving an inspiring mark on those around them.

All volunteers nominated with more than 1,000 hours of service in 2023 will receive a lapel pin and certificate from Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke. In addition, volunteers with more than 100 hours will receive a certificate from the Mayor. Volunteer names and number of hours must be submitted online at Chandler Volunteer Hours no later than Monday, March 11.

The selected honorees will be notified in mid-March and an awards recognition event will be held the morning of Friday, April 19.
