2023 Year in Review

This past year, the City of Chandler was honored with the Best City for Business award by the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It was also a year for welcoming new companies to Chandler and celebrating expansion projects for others. The following is a brief recap of the biggest economic development stories of 2023:

 

Business News

Edwards Vacuum

Edwards Vacuum, a leading supplier of vacuum and abatement services for the semiconductor industry, opened a 200,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Chandler to support growing demands for its services in Arizona.

Bechtel

Bechtel opened a new office in the Price Corridor for its Manufacturing & Technology global business unit which serves customers in the semiconductor, batteries, and battery materials markets.

Mastek

Mastek, a global cloud transformation & digital engineering partner, announced an innovation hub in Chandler. The office will support 300 new employees and provide services on leading enterprise platforms.

Raley's

Raley's, opened a new 59,000-square-foot Basha’s Support Center in the Price Corridor, retaining a corporate presence here in Chandler. The office will be a support hub for the company's grocery stores across Arizona and New Mexico.

EMD Electronics

EMD Electronics celebrated the grand opening of its factory in Chandler. The 75,000-square-foot building in the Airpark Area doubles the company’s manufacturing capacity in the U.S. and will produce equipment for its Delivery Systems & Services (DS&S) business unit.

Yield Engineering Systems

Yield Engineering Systems, a leading provider of semiconductor technology solutions, opened its new 123,000-square-foot facility in Chandler’s Price Corridor. The state-of-the-art YES Advanced Technology Center (YATC) will employ approximately 100 people.

Vensure Employer Services

Vensure Employer Services, a leading provider of HR technology and services, opened a global headquarters in Chandler. This project will allow Vensure to better meet the needs of its clients and expand job opportunities within the greater Phoenix community.

Grand Canyon University

Grand Canyon University opened its new nursing site in West Chandler for its Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN), expanding higher education opportunities in Chandler while contributing to the workforce of an in-demand, target industry.

SCHEELS

SCHEELS opened its first store in Arizona at Chandler Fashion Center in September 2023. The new store is a renovation/expansion of a previously vacant building and features 220,000 square feet of retail space and family-friendly attractions.

 

City Initiatives 

Chandler Endeavor Venture Innovation Incubator

Partnered with Arizona State University (ASU) to make the ASU Chandler Innovation Center (ACIC) in Downtown Chandler a hub for startup resources and support.

An Intergovernmental Agreement was executed with ASU to manage the Chandler Endeavor Venture Innovation Incubator, and ASU also opened a new coworking space that provides free workspace and office amenities for entrepreneurs.

 
Chandler Innovation Fair

Hosted the 12th annual Chandler Innovation Fair, which is designed to get kids interested in STEM careers and featured more than 100 exhibitors from local technology companies and schools demonstrating how important science is to daily life. The event was held in partnership with Chandler Unified School District and is part of the statewide Arizona SciTech Festival. Attendance has grown every year with over 1,000 families participating this past year.

Airpark Area Signs

Launched a place branding initiative for the Airpark Area with seven monument signs installed throughout the employment corridor to welcome visitors to the area, enhance its sense of place, and reinforce its brand identity. This project was initiated following the Airpark Area Plan Update (adopted in Oct. 2021), which identified gateway signage as an opportunity to help brand the area.

 

 

 

Chandler Infill Incentive Plan

Amended the Chandler Infill Incentive Plan in November 2023, which provides tools to promote and facilitate desirable redevelopment projects in Chandler (north of Loop 202). City Council’s 2023-25 Strategic Framework calls on the city to make “targeted use of adaptive reuse, infill, mixed-use and redevelopment tools and plans supporting the vitality of commercial centers and neighborhoods.”

 
Visit Chandler Tourism website

Rebranded the Visit Chandler Tourism website as well as produced and published a Chandler Map and the 2024 Chandler Visitor’s Guide. If you are looking for the latest updates on things to do, places to see, taste or explore in Chandler, Arizona – connect with Visit Chandler.

 

 

In short, 2023 was a great year. Over the next year, our team will continue to execute the city’s Economic Development Strategic Plan to support business growth and long-term economic development within our community.
