The Arizona SciTech Festival celebrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) annually during the months of February through March. There are currently more than 3,500 events held statewide, and the City of Chandler is proud to be a partner.

As the Innovation and Technology Hub of the Southwest, Chandler hosts one of the premier events providing opportunities to engage in science through hands-on and interactive activities offered at the Chandler Science Spectacular.  Mark your calendar for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Saturday, Feb. 9, as the eighth annual event returns to Downtown Chandler, near the Downtown Stage, 178 E. Commonwealth Ave.

This free, family friendly event offers opportunities for all ages to explore, engage and learn the mysteries of science and how it is part of everyday life. Residents will learn about robotics, forensics, zoology, rocket launching and much more. Engagement with the activities and each participant is strongly encouraged.

Last year, we introduced a competition component of the event and we’re excited to see the entries for this year! All K-12 schools and organizations within the city’s boundaries are encouraged to participate. Categories include most educational, most creative and most passionate projects. Six winning teams will each receive a $500 prize to go towards their school’s science club. Winners also will be recognized at a future Council meeting.

We couldn’t do this without the generous support of our sponsors, Intel and Northrop Grumman. Both are passionate about STEAM, their commitment to the Chandler community and educating the next generation of scientists.

I am looking forward to this event and invite you, your family and friends to come out and have fun exploring science.
