Then and Now: The Incorporation of Chandler

On Feb. 16, 1920, the town of Chandler was legally incorporated — an event that gave the City legal power and officially granted residents the authority to elect a town council to make decisions on behalf of the community.

Although the town was founded on May 16, 1912 (eight years prior), Chandler’s incorporation sent a strong message to the rest of Arizona that this community on the edge of the Salt River Valley was growing up and solidifying its reputation as a place of innovation and a home to resilient and hardworking people.
