CHANDLER, Ariz. – The City of Chandler’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Division is kicking off a Building Better Mental Health series on Saturday, Oct. 21. A symposium will be the first in a series of free events aimed at increasing mental health understanding and reducing stigma through awareness, education and advocacy.
The Mental Health Symposium 2023: Demystifying the Science of Mental Health, held in collaboration with Lighthouse Psychiatry Brain Health Center, will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Chandler City Council Chambers, 88 E. Chicago St. Attendees are encouraged to register online for the free event: Chandler Mental Health Symposium.
There will be seven 20-minute presentations led by mental health experts on the following topics, followed by a panel discussion:
- Complex Trauma Amongst First Responders and Latinx Community with Emily Meyers, LPC & Estefana Johnson, LCSW
- Barriers to Mental Health Care in the LGBTQ+ Community with Mark Anderson, DO
- The Developing Brain: Gateway to Understanding Youth Mental Health with Jessica Shoff, LCSW
- The Science Behind ADHD Treatment with Julia Overman, Ph.D.
- Recognition and Treatment of Depression Throughout the Lifespan with Tiffany Jordan, PMHNP
- TMS, Spravato, Ketamine: Specific Tools at the Frontier of Modern Depression Treatment with Brian Nyberg, MD
- Navigating the Mental Health Care System: What Families Should Know with Chung Trinh
Bios of each featured presenter are available online at Chandler Mental Health Symposium. As part of the event, there also will be an exhibition area featuring local services and treatment options. A light breakfast will be provided; and free parking is available along Washington and Chicago streets, or in the City Hall Garage, 240 S. Washington St., Chandler.
The three-part series will continue next year with two additional events planned for January and May 2024.
