Did you know ...
Caring for your plants can be tough, but the City of Chandler offers helpful resources that promote healthy landscapes and smart water use. In addition to the information below, you can explore brochures & resources to learn more about xeriscape landscaping, desert plant selection, and order free physical copies of our booklets.
Watering Schedule
Deep, infrequent irrigation is recommended when applying water to a landscape.
Though, as summer comes, applications may need to be increased.
Irrigration System
Irrigation systems should be checked regularly to catch broken timers, leakage, drip lines that are not currently watering plants, and broken sprinkler heads.
You should also check that all the drip emitters are in place and see if your sprinkler heads have been covered by sand or debris.
Pruning
Pruning done improperly or in excess can have devastating results. It should be done for a few reasons including removing dead or damaged branches, eliminating hazards, or improving tree stability.
Don’t remove more than 25% of live branches and leaves annually and avoid pruning during the summer.
Lawn Care
When mowing the lawn, make sure to only remove 1/3 of the grass at a time.
Having a lower blade to the ground can stress the grass and will increase growth rate, making you mow more.
Allow your lawn to grow taller during summer to shade the soil to create a healthier lawn.
Pool Care
Taking care of your pool is one of the best ways to avoid high water use.
To conserve the water in your pool you should find and fix leaks, keep filters clean, avoid draining water and backwash only when needed.
Tree Care & Maintenance
Trees are one of the most resilient plants we have in our yard but with simple mistakes and little care, they become extremely weak and can end up falling.
It’s important that during drought and monsoon season, trees need to be taken care of appropriately.
