Downtown Chandler Improvements – Dr. A.J. Chandler Park Renovation (CA2402.401)
The City of Chandler will begin construction in early 2026 for the Dr. A.J. Chandler Park Renovation project. Home to many of the city’s special events and festivals, the park was last renovated in 1986, and Downtown Chandler has changed significantly since that time. With the addition of multi-family housing, office space, and new retailers and restaurants, the park has also seen an increase in special events and entertainment, now with more than 100 events a year.
Crews continue work removing existing landscape, hardscape and structures in the park area to clear the way for the new improvements. You may see increased trucking to haul off materials during this time.
Scheduled to take place Friday, Feb. 13 and again on Monday through Wednesday, Feb. 16 - 18, there will be a northbound right lane closure of Arizona Avenue between Boston and Buffalo streets, during off-peak hours (approx. 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) to accommodate removal of the structures.
It's expected that the majority of removals should be completed by the end of February and earthwork activities can then begin.
During construction, parking along Arizona Avenue is limited and a few angled parking spaces along San Marcos and Arizona Place are not available; however, parking structures and surface street parking continue to offer parking throughout the downtown.
"No Parking" signs will be posted, as needed, at designated locations (as required by the traffic control plan) where parking will be restricted. Please continue to visit Downtown Chandler and watch our progress.
Park improvements on the west side of Arizona Avenue are expected to be complete prior to the 2026 holiday season, and on the east side of Arizona Avenue by early spring 2027.
