We are now just a few weeks away from Census Day — April 1, 2020 — and your participation is vital. In fact, you can complete your census form as early as mid-March.
In Arizona, census data impacts funding for 55 federal programs that help people get the services they need — programs such as the National School Lunch Program, Medicare and much more. Your participation could make a difference in the lives of your neighbors, friends, family and co-workers.
For every child, woman and man counted in Chandler, the State of Arizona receives $2,959 from the federal government. This amount adds up to more than $20 billion annually. The more people counted, the more money our City stands to receive for vital services to the community.

Chandler Fire Reminds the ABCs of Water Safety as Water Safety Month Approaches
Drownings are 100 percent preventable. The month of May is Water Safety Month and the City of Chandler invites the community to participate in the Water Safety Walk on Saturday, May 2, 2020. Join Chandler Fire and Aquatics to walk door-to-door delivering water safety information to Chandler households. To volunteer, email Chandler Fire or call 480-782-2120. Adult Supervision
- Keep infants and toddlers within arm’s reach.
- Floaties are toys. Use life jackets. They save lives.

- Empty wading pools, tubs and buckets immediately after each use.

Chandler receives accolades for financial reporting and budget presentation
The City remains committed to providing residents with a complete and fair presentation of its financial affairs. In 2019, Chandler again received two prestigious awards from the Government Finance Officer Association of the United States and Canada.
The Accounting Division received the Excellence in Financial Reporting Award, for the June 30, 2018, CAFR. This was the 37th consecutive year the City has received this award.
The Budget Division, for the 32nd consecutive year, received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the FY 2019-20 Budget document. Special recognition was also earned for the Capital section of the budget document.
Annual Financial Report and Budget Summary
The Fiscal Year (FY) 2019-20 Budget and 2020-29 Capital Improvement program are available on the City’s website chandleraz.gov/budget. The City’s FY 2018-19 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) is online at chandleraz.gov/FinancialReport. The documents are also available in the Management Services Department, the Chandler Public Libraries, and the City Clerk’s Office.
The financial report summary provides information about the City’s financial condition for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2019. The budget summaries depict the City’s operating and capital budgets for the prior and current fiscal years. The information included in this summary is extracted from the documents listed above. Invest Wisely, Shop Chandler
Why is it important to Shop Chandler? Sales taxes from the money you spend in Chandler help support City services, such as Police and Fire, road improvements and neighborhoods. These taxes also support a quality of life enhanced by parks, sports fields, trails, pools and recreation programs.
And it’s more important than ever to support local businesses. Whether it’s a large purchase, or a quick stop in the grocery store, where you choose to shop makes a difference. Chandler residents enjoy a wide variety of shopping, but those businesses rely on your support.

Get Your Yard Ready for Spring
Warmer weather is here, and it’s time to get Chandler yards ready for spring. There are three options for residents to dispose of green waste.
One option is to place yard waste in the black trash container for normal weekly collection. Maricopa County and Chandler City code require that all yard waste items including leaves and grass must be bagged and tied before placing it in the trash can.
Another option is curbside bulk collection. Chandler residents can receive a free curbside bulk pick up once every six weeks. There are specific size and bundling requirements and specific locations for where items are allowed to be placed. Make a list of what you need picked up, then call to schedule your pick-up before setting items out for collection.
The third option for Chandler residents is to drop off yard waste at the Recycling-Solid Waste Collection Center (RSWCC), located at 955 E. Queen Creek Road. The facility is open Thursday through Monday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and closed Tuesdays, Wednesdays and City-observed holidays. A picture ID is required, as well as a hard copy of a current City of Chandler utility bill showing City-provided solid waste services (within 60 days). Residents must haul and unload their waste, and only trash from the Chandler residence listed on the bill may be brought to this facility.
Contractors and/or persons performing work for Chandler residents are not allowed to use the RSWCC, even if they are escorted by the resident. The only exception is for residents with a physical limitation who are accommodated though prior administrative approval.
Backyard composters are available at the RSWCC and backyard composting workshops are scheduled throughout the year. To register, visit Chandler Water or call 480-782-3800.
