Happy Holidays from Mayor Kevin Hartke

Mayor Kevin Hartke

Our city is a tapestry of diverse cultures and beliefs, and it is this diversity that makes us stronger and more resilient. Recognizing the many traditions to be celebrated, I hope this season brings you joy, peace and an abundance of cherished moments with your loved ones.

During the busy holiday season, local businesses and nonprofits are the vibrant threads that add color, character and a unique identity to Chandler. Supporting local isn’t just about commerce; it’s a pledge to empower the talented people of Chandler, invest in the dreams of our neighbors and the future of our community. It’s an experience that goes beyond transactions – it creates relationships and prosperity.

As we light up our community and homes with the glow of festive decorations, let us illuminate the lives of those around us with acts of generosity and love. May the holiday season inspire us to create lasting memories, strengthen bonds with one another and build a future filled with hope and prosperity.

On behalf of the Chandler City Council and city staff, I wish you a joyous holiday season and a Happy New Year.

Join the fun at Airport Day on Jan. 20

Celebrate the Airport’s 75th Anniversary

Airport Day

Chandler Municipal Airport (CHD) is excited to announce the return of its community open house, Airport Day, on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will bring together aviation enthusiasts and the public in celebration of the Airport’s 75th anniversary at its current location near McQueen and Germann roads.

Many residents may not realize that Chandler has its own community airport. Airport Day gives CHD staff the opportunity to showcase their place of work that they’re very proud of and that also happens to serve as the 16th busiest general aviation airport in the nation.

During the event, attendees can enjoy aircraft displays
(single-engine, vintage and modern planes), helicopter displays, flyovers and food trucks. Attendees also can learn more about local businesses who call CHD and the surrounding Airpark area home.

Survey gives you the opportunity to provide input on the city budget

It’s that time of year again! The City of Chandler is starting its budget process and encourages residents to provide their thoughts about the community and its future.

Starting Monday, Nov. 27, Chandler residents will be able to take the survey. The survey will be available through Friday, Jan. 12, 2024.

City staff asks residents to answer at least the first seven general questions of the survey which should take about two minutes. The remaining questions allow you to provide feedback on some specific focus areas of the city, and you can share thoughts and ideas on any or all of the topics.

The budget survey results are shared with the Mayor, City Councilmembers, City Manager and staff to assist in the
formulation of the city’s financial plan. Please take this opportunity to let us know what is going well, and what could use some additional attention during the next Budget Year.

In addition to the online survey, paper copies will also be available in English, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese, and may be picked up at various city facilities, including libraries, community centers and the lobby of City Hall.

What to do with your Christmas tree

Looking for a way to dispose of your Christmas tree? Chandler offers several methods for tree recycling. Trees that are collected are chipped and reused in projects. For safety, please remove tree stands, nails, lights, ornaments and garland before recycling, and do not place trees in bags.

Drop-off boxes are available at multiple locations from Dec. 26, 2023 through Jan. 12, 2024. Call 480-782-3510 for locations.

Trees also will be collected separately at the curb on your recycling collection day, from Dec. 26, 2023 through Jan. 12, 2024. You do not have to schedule collection, but trees must be at the edge of your driveway (no more than four feet onto your property) by 6 a.m. on your recycling day. Do not place the tree in your trash or recycling bin, on the sidewalk, street or in the alley.

Be the solution to stormwater pollution

Stormwater runoff is a leading cause of pollution to surface waters in the United States.

Stormwater runoff occurs when precipitation from rainfall flows over the ground. The flows can pick up dirt, litter, automotive fluids, pet waste, household chemicals, pesticides, fertilizers, yard waste and other pollutants as it flows over paved surfaces and yards. Paved surfaces like driveways, sidewalks and streets direct stormwater runoff into the street and gutter and eventually into a storm drain structure, where it discharges, untreated, into the nearest landscaped retention basin, park, greenbelt or community lake within your neighborhood.

Please follow these tips to prevent debris and pollutants from entering the storm drains:

  • Sweep yard debris and properly dispose of in the trash, rather than blowing or hosing into the street.
  • Contain swimming pool or spa water on private property or dispose of it in the sanitary sewer cleanout associated with your home. For more information call 480-782-3506 or find more information about pool drainage.
  • Use fertilizers and pesticides sparingly and as directed by the manufacturer.
  • Pick up after your pet and properly dispose of the waste in the trash
  • Wash vehicles at a commercial car wash.
  • Always use a nozzle on your garden hose around the home. Do not let the water flow into the street.
  • Maintain vehicles to be free of leaks and do not park leaking vehicles on the street.
  • Do not overwater your lawn.
  • Take household hazardous waste products, such as cleaning products, automotive fluids, paint, pesticides, herbicides and pool chemicals, to the City’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility for recycling and proper disposal. An appointment is required. Please contact Solid Waste Services at 480-782-3510.

Report illegal dumping into streets and storm drains by calling 480-782-3506.
